Rande – Native Superfood

Numerous organic beets grow and thrive in the fertile soils of the Lake Constance region. But what makes beets such a special vegetable? We take a closer look.

Each autumn, our regional partner farmers bring freshly harvested organic beets to our juice manufactory in Tägerwilen. This produces our natural, directly pressed juice in accordance with Biotta's principles.

Red beet, beetroot, garden beet – there are many names for this intensely colored root vegetable. But it hasn’t become very popular. In the statistics of the most consumed vegetable varieties in Switzerland, beetroot doesn’t even rank in the top 10 despite its widespread popularity. However, beetroot has already had many centuries to establish itself on menus, as it is said to have been eaten as early as antiquity.

The Romans were the first people to cultivate it, and later it spread across all of Europe – including Switzerland. It has been native here ever since and thrives best on moisture-retaining, humus-rich loam soils, which can be found, for example, in the Lake Constance region. Besides the well-known red beet, this root vegetable is also available in yellow (golden) and white versions.

In the food industry, beetroot – respectively the red variety of it – often acts as a natural coloring agent. It can also be used this way in private kitchens, for example for a color-intense risotto or as a color accent in desserts. The red color of beetroot is due to so-called betacyanins, which are secondary plant substances. Like other vegetable varieties, beetroot is a natural source of the mineral potassium. According to studies, potassium is said to promote the excretion of water from the body. It also ensures that information can be passed from cell to cell and is therefore essential for the optimal function of all our organs and also the nervous system. In addition, an adequate intake of potassium helps maintain normal blood pressure. So it doesn't always have to be exotic superfood from faraway countries – our local vegetable also brings vitality and well-being to the glass.

Biotta has been bottling beet juice for decades. But the principles have remained the same:

  • 100% natural
  • 100% organic
  • Made from 100% freshly pressed juice, we do not use reconstituted concentrate
  • No added sugar (contains natural sugar)
  • No artificial colors, preservatives, and flavors
  • No added vitamins (fruits & vegetables have their own vitamins)
  • Produced in a climate-friendly way
